About Mumbai

The Indian city of Mumbai formerly known as Bombay is recognized as Maharashtra’s capital and is also the most populous city with a calculated population of 13million city dwellers and 7 million suburb residents. This city is reputed to be the 5th populous metropolitan city in the world and is located off the Indian western coast. This city has carved out its niche as the commercial and entertainment capital and also boasts of the prime financial institutions like those of the Reserve Bank of India, the Bombay Stock Exchange, and the National Stock Exchange and also houses many of the Indian company headquarters. The residents of this city boast of a higher standard of living compared to the other Indian cities. Mumbai has earned its name from the term Mumba or Maha Amba or the Hindu goddess Mumbadevi and Aai refers to mother in Marathi. Mumbai was originally a 7 island archipelago inhabited since Stone Age. This island boasts of being a part of the Maurya Empire and the Ashokan Empire.
